Workshop “Cooking justice”
Workshop "Cooking justice"

Cooking in the markets of Madrid with fair trade.
These workshops have been carried out in collaboration with Eva Vicente Morales, from Ideas Comercio Justo.
Throughout 2018 and 2019 we have collaborated on several occasions with the Fair Trade Ideas Cooperative, promoting its delicious products through our collaborative cooking workshops, always produced in a sustainable way, and with fair and dignified working conditions. Products such as chocolate, coffee, panela, rice, zaatar, couscous, spices, or quinoa, among others. All of them with a beautiful story behind, which we shared with the workshop participants, to talk about the impact of our consumption, as the origin and conditions of many of the products that we usually consume …
With the help of Ideas Comercio Justo and within the framework of the Barrios por el Comercio Fair campaign, we toured various markets in Madrid: the San Fernando Market, the Vallehermoso Market, the Guillermo de Osma Market or the Santa María de la Cabeza Market. We also went to the María Zambrano Equality Space.
In both editions, we had the presence of a producer to relate the sowing, harvesting, and distribution processes, and the account of the positive impact that the organization in cooperatives and the fair trade of their ingredients have had on the communities. In 2018 we shared the workshop at the Guillermo de Osma Market with Gloria, a quinoa producer from Ecuador, and in 2019, at the María Zambrano Equality Space, with a Paraguayan cane sugar producer called Laura de Manduvirá.
As a final touch to the workshops, Fair Trade Ideas made this video recipe, starring our culinary artist Suraia. A delicious dish made with fair trade couscous, produced by a Palestinian women’s cooperative.
In addition to the shopping in the markets, knowing the seasonal products and the new or traditional gastronomic proposals, we cooked and learned about the origin and the stories of IDEAS products, creating simple recipes and new ways of incorporating these products into our daily diet.
